The 2017 Woodward Dream Cruise had quite a different feel from previous years. It felt like there was much less excitement than I’d experienced before, having attended the event since it first started over 20 years ago.
While there were a large number of the regular attendees, including every bright yellow Mustang in the country and groups of middle-aged guys driving around in trucks with lift kits tall enough to drive under, Woodward itself seemed much emptier than it normally is during the cruise.
It might have been the heat, lessened interest of the automotive community as a whole, or it could be that the Dream Cruise as a whole is losing it’s appeal as a whole.
Still, there managed to be a couple of things that caught my eye while wandering around.
The first thing we ran across was an all-original ’57 Chevy. It was beautiful, even with all its imperfections and wear.
The Rat Rods were out in force this year.
This one came with its very own Jack Daniel’s coolant overflow tank. Pretty appropriate, I think.
This one had an interesting theme—off-road tow truck.
I couldn’t help but love this classic pick-up with a soapbox racer in the back.
I don’t think I could have lived with myself if I hadn’t wandered into the private party where this gorgeous wagon was hanging out.
